Child marriage, early motherhood and an unstable economic background, all form barriers to education for many women in India.
Often living with and caring for their in-laws, these women have little chance for self-advancement or financial independence.
With each purchase you make, we provide 1 day of sewing classes via renowned non-profit organization B1G1.
Sewing courses foster independence and respect for their students within their families, and provide a certificate in tailoring and machine embroidery which can be used to gain employment, start businesses and independence.
Throughout the onset of COVID-19, our local partner has adapted and continued to provide online courses to their students.
MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT
These courses are offered to women in villages where work has already been undertaken to encourage their families to give them more independence. While B1G1 support the women, they also continue to engage their families in the process to promote further changes in their attitudes towards their wives, daughters and daughters-in-law.
The vocational training courses in tailoring and machine embroidery take place over 6 months, while advanced courses last for 3 months.
